It’s been months that we have left our vehicles unattended like an abandoned haunted building. There are high chances of rusts, tires deflation, and problem in the engine. Now since the lockdown has been lifted and we will be resuming to our work, our long hibernating vehicles will be working with us.
We may NOT have the solution for human breakdown after going back to work from a long unwanted vacation, but we can definitely give you tips to avoid your vehicles from breaking down after using it in a long gap ;)
Lubricate your chains
When the vehicles are not in use, the lubrication oil fades away. Especially the chain and brake areas where you need to lose friction for your vehicle to run smoothly. You can use spray the lubricating oil at your home or go to the nearest mechanic shop. It’s just a matter of minutes.
Check Your Tire Pressure
When the wheels are not in motion for a long time, it loses the air pressure. Air pressure is an important factor to consider while taking your vehicle out for a spin. The pressure determines how comfortable you’d be in the road. There are pressure mantras such as what pressure should be used on highways, or off roads which we will discuss in the upcoming blogs. For now, just check if the pressure is between 32 psi to 35 psi. Anything less or more than that would make you uncomfortable on the roads.
Charge your batteries
Try starting your vehicle engine after a long gap, you will have a hard time with it. It is probably because the battery has discharged because it has not been used for a long time. If the vehicle finds it difficult to start in the beginning, it is going to give you hard times in the road too.
Check your fuel
Fuel often fades away when it is not in use for a long time. Obviously, it is rare for the fuel to fly away from an airtight tank, it MAY be possible. Just check the fuel before leaving your house. Better safe than sorry!!
Service it ASAP
When your vehicle hasn’t been used, it is normal for the engine to get the cold, battery to get discharged and tires to deflate. Also, you might have some screws loosened or some bolts tightened. Servicing is the perfect solution to fixing all these problems quickly and by professionals. The stations are all functioning regularly.
Bonus: You could also wash away the dust and dirt vacationing on your vehicle.
Take your vehicle for a long ride
I know your boss would look at you with a crooked eye on this particular point, but hear me out! Your engine needs a good 4-5 hours running (minimum) to gain back its momentum. We have been at home for such a long time, a day out with your vehicle could come handy; for you and your vehicle both. You could even organize a day tour with your office colleagues to somewhere near and have that engine warming sessions together ;)
